Ear Training Resource Page

The LVMTA theory examinations include a section on ear training for each level. This page is devoted to helping you train for this portion of the exam.

[+] Level 1:

IDENTIFY:

Pitches: high, low, or same

Melodies: high, low, or same

Dynamics: piano, forte

Rhythm: same or different using 𝅝 𝅗𝅥 𝅗𝅥. 𝅘𝅥

[+] Level 2

IDENTIFY:

Skips and Steps: above or below a given note

Intervals: Identify Melodic or Harmonic, played together or separately

Rhythm: same or different using 𝅝 𝅗𝅥 𝅗𝅥. 𝅘𝅥

[+] Level 3

IDENTIFY:

Scales: major and harmonic minor

Practice Four possible correct answers:
1. Major
2. Natural minor
3. Harmonic minor
4. Melodic minor

Note: Teoria does not allow limiting to only the two scale forms.

Triads: Major or minor

Practice Two possible correct answers:
1. Major
2. minor

Position: Root position;
Clef: Treble clef

Intervals: 2nd, 5th, 8th(octave)

Practices: Three possible answers:
1. M2
2. P5
3. P8

Note: Teoria does not limit the answer list.
